Post-Birth Alert: Orange Bracelet Program

At AdventHealth Heart of Florida, we’re dedicated to staying by your side from conception to birth and beyond. That means making sure you remain healthy postpartum to care for your new baby feeling your best — body, mind and spirit — so you can enjoy these precious moments to the fullest.

In the days and weeks following delivery, complications could occur that increase the risk of maternal mortality. Education and awareness of those risks could help save lives. That’s why we’re implementing the Orange Bracelet Program.

Postpartum mothers will receive an orange bracelet at discharge to wear for 6 to 12 weeks following the births of their babies, keeping community health care providers aware of vulnerable mothers and the health risks associated with delivery. We seek to decrease maternal mortality by building awareness and partnering with community health care providers to offer timely identification and treatment of postpartum complications should they occurs.

Women with any of the following conditions are consider to be at the highest risk of postpartum mortality:

  • Cardiomyopathy (the thickening of the heart’s walls)
  • Hypertensive disorder, preeclampsia or eclampsia
  • Perinatal depression
  • Sepsis
  • Substance use disorder
  • Venous thromboembolism (blood clots)

Identifying a postpartum complication early is crucial for proper diagnosis and treatment, and we’re committed to being with you every step of the way.
