Joe Stephenson, MD

Dr. Joe Stephenson is a nationally recognized, practicing medical oncologist, board-certified in hematology and oncology. He attended the Medical University of South Carolina and went on to his residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA. Dr. Stephenson performed his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He remained in San Antonio, where he held the dual position of associate professor at the University of Texas San Antonio School of Medicine and the Cancer Therapy Research Center. He was also the director of the General Maxwell Thurman Drug Development Unit. Dr. Stephenson is also the founder of the Institute for Translational Oncology (ITOR). He has over 50 publications and has been in practice over 25 years.

Dr. Stephenson enjoys working outdoors, fly fishing, and reading about history outside the office. He is a Buncombe Street Methodist Church member in Greenville and supports the youth ministries at UMC and Apologetics. He and his wife Nancy have two adult sons.

Dr Stephenson is passionate about delivering holistic and individualized care to each patient. He is a champion for breast cancer prevention and an advocate for improving cancer surveillance for cancer survivors and community screening.
