AdventHealth Port Charlotte named Primary Resuscitation Center of Excellence for helping to lead the way in life-saving care

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Patients at AdventHealth Port Charlotte can feel confident knowing they’re receiving some of the highest-level heart care in Florida. The hospital has been recognized as a Primary Resuscitation Center of Excellence.

Cardiac Arrest remains a leading killer in Florida. Survival rates continue to be low despite advances in health care technology and in medical care. Statewide, about 350,000 people die from cardiac arrest each year.

This statewide initiative was launched in 2022 by the Florida Resuscitation Center Committee, which was set up to figure out how to help more people survive sudden cardiac arrest.

To achieve this recognition, a hospital must meet the statewide criteria set out by the Committee. The recognition reflects the hospital’s commitment to improving cardiac arrest outcomes and advancing evidence-based care.

Beyond what happens inside the hospital, there’s also a major focus on getting community members involved, especially when it comes to training bystanders in life-saving resuscitation techniques. The hospital also is focused on helping people recover after cardiac arrest, focusing on wellness, rehabilitation, and supporting not just patients, but their families and caregivers too.

AdventHealth Port Charlotte features more than 30 years of experience in cardiac care and was the first to bring open-heart surgery to the community. The hospital’s expert cardiology teams provide a range of heart care services, from helping patients create a heart-healthy lifestyle to performing lifesaving procedures in emergencies. AdventHealth Port Charlotte’s Heart Center is the only heart center in Charlotte County to feature all-private patient rooms, a 10-bed cardiac surgical unit, a nine-bed cardiac vascular intensive care unit, two open heart surgery suites and a hybrid operating room.
