VOLUSIA AND FLAGLER COUNTIES, Fla. The Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties will host physician-led cardiac lectures to teach the community about heart health.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer in Florida, accounting for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the state. Several factors contribute to unhealthy hearts, such as diabetes, obesity, and a poor diet or lack of exercise.
However, preventing heart disease is possible at any age. Some ways to promote heart health are eating healthy, exercising, and keeping healthy habits.

- On Feb. 28 at 6 p.m., join Florida Hospital New Smyrna while a physician panel of cardiologists Dr. Ravi Rao, Dr. Surya Rao, and Dr. Huijian Wang, discuss advances in cardiac care over complimentary refreshments. This event will be held at the Florida Hospital New Smyrna, 125 Florida Memorial Pkwy., New Smyrna Beach.
- On March 1 at 6 p.m., join Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center while an expert physician panel, including interventional cardiologist Dr. Dinesh Arab, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Uptal Desai, interventional cardiologist Dr. Ashraf Elsakr, and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Patrick Mangonon, discuss heart disease, from the basics of heart health to complex cardiovascular care. Complimentary refreshments will be served. This event will be held at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, medical office building, 305 Memorial Medical Pkwy., Classrooms A and B, Daytona Beach.
- On March 2, join Florida Hospital Flagler while interventional cardiologist Dr. Amit Nanavati discusses peripheral vascular disease (PVD), the diseases of blood vessels outside the heart and brain. At 11 a.m., the hospital will provide free screenings for peripheral vascular disease. At noon, the complimentary lunch and presentation will begin. This event will be held at Florida Hospital Flagler, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, Classrooms ABC, Palm Coast. over a complimentary lunch
- On March 8 at noon, join Florida Hospital DeLand while interventional cardiologist Dr. Janak Bhavsar discusses innovations in cardiology over a complementary lunch. This event will be held in Florida Hospital DeLand, Classrooms ABC, 701 W. Plymouth Ave., DeLand.
- On March 9, join Florida Hospital Fish Memorial while interventional cardiologist Dr. Roy Venzon discusses peripheral vascular disease (PVD), the diseases of blood vessels outside the heart and brain. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the complimentary lunch and presentation will begin at noon. This event will be held at the DeBary Golf and Country Club, 300 Plantation Club Drive, DeBary.
