ORANGE CITY, Fla., February 24, 2016 On Feb. 11, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial donated backpacks, clinic supplies and food to stock the pantries for students in need.
The hospital gave more than $6,300 in clinic supplies, including exam table paper, gloves, tongue depressors, and more, to 23 West Volusia County public schools.
About 85 percent of our students are on free or reduced lunches, said Charlie Bynum, Orange City Elementary School principal. We want kids to be ready for class and prepared to learn. These donations will help take a little pressure off students, so that they can be a good learner in the classroom. Every little bit helps our students.
We are not just a hospital in the community, rather, we are a part of the community, said Rob Deininger, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial CEO. It's important to us to be more than just a healthcare provider, but also be involved in the communities we serve.
This donation is another example of Florida Hospital Fish Memorials mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ. In 2015, the five Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties collectively contributed nearly $120 million in benefits to the underprivileged, the community's overall health and wellness and spiritual needs, and capital improvements.
