New AdventHealth endocrinologist expanding specialty care in WNC

AdventHealth Medical Group is pleased to welcome Aaron W. Barton, MD, MS, a board-certified endocrinologist, to its growing team of physicians, expanding access to specialized, whole-person care for the community.

Caring for patients at AdventHealth Medical Group Endocrinology at Hendersonville*, Dr. Barton provides comprehensive endocrinology care, including treatment for diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2), thyroid disease and thyroid nodules, pituitary, adrenal and parathyroid conditions, osteoporosis and metabolic disorders. His approach is rooted in listening closely, taking time to explain each step of care, and helping patients understand their condition and treatment options so they can move forward with confidence.

“At AdventHealth, we believe care should treat the whole person — body, mind and spirit,” said Christy Sneller, MBA, Vice President of Physician Services for AdventHealth in North Carolina. “Dr. Barton’s thoughtful, patient-centered approach reflects our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ and ensures our neighbors have access to care that is both expert and compassionate.”

Dr. Barton is dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and brings a unique background in pharmaceutical and medical research to his clinical practice. His decision to transition from research into patient care was deeply personal, inspired by the unexpected loss of his younger brother and a desire to make a direct, meaningful difference in people’s lives.

“Research plays an essential role in advancing medicine, but I felt called to work directly with patients,” Dr. Barton said. “My goal is to help people understand what’s happening in their bodies, answer their questions honestly and walk alongside them as they work toward better health. I’m grateful to be joining AdventHealth and becoming part of a community that values connection, faith and whole-person care.”

Dr. Barton shared that he was drawn to the AdventHealth community for its close-knit, neighborly feel and its commitment to caring for people beyond their diagnoses. He emphasizes collaboration with care teams and referring providers to ensure patients receive coordinated, comprehensive support for their overall well-being.

Dr. Barton’s hobbies are sure to help him feel right at home in our mountains from the start. He enjoys riding motorcycles, amateur radio and playing music including guitar and keyboards. He is also looking forward to enjoying the local food scene.
