New nursing executive director named

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., October 20, 2017 Florida Hospital New Smyrna has selected Karen Duncan to serve as executive director of inpatient and emergency department nursing. In this role, Duncan will be responsible for overseeing the nursing care provided in the 112-bed facility's inpatient units, including the intensive care unit (ICU), progressive care unit (PCU), and medical-surgical unit, as well as the 19-bed emergency department. Duncan has 24 years of nursing experience and most recently served as the executive director of surgical and diagnostic services at Florida Hospital New Smyrna. From 2006-2012, Duncan served as the director of the emergency and diagnostic services. A New Smyrna Beach resident, Duncan earned masters degrees in both nursing and business. In addition, she is a board-certified nurse practitioner, board certified emergency nurse, and a member of the Emergency Nurses Association, as well as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
