NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., October 5, 2017 Florida Hospital New Smyrna has selected Karen Torrey to serve as director of surgical services.
In this role, Torrey is responsible for the administrative and clinical activities of the main operating rooms, post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), preadmission testing, ambulatory surgery unit, endoscopy services, sterile processing, and anesthesia support services.
Torrey has served the New Smyrna Beach community for nearly 30 years, beginning her career at Bert Fish Medical Center (now known as Florida Hospital New Smyrna) as an intensive care unit (ICU) secretary in January 1988.
She has 25 years of nursing experience and 10 years of experience in nursing management. Most recently, she served as surgical services manager for Florida Hospital New Smyrna and was responsible for managing and supervising the surgical services care team.
A Port Orange resident, Torrey earned a nursing degree from Daytona State College. In addition, she was named Nurse of the Year in 2007 and Employee of the Year in 2009.
