NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., September 29, 2017 Florida Hospital New Smyrna recognized registered nurse Marcia Gambrall with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses. Created in 1999, more than 2,400 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 14 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
Gambrall works in the intensive care unit (ICU) and a patients family member nominated her for the award.
Marcia is truly a kind and gentle soul, for she demonstrates genuine concern for her patients welfare. When Marcia tended to our father's care, I watched and listened to her as she worked. The expression of gratitude on my father's face was one of thankfulness, the family member wrote in a nomination form. Though Dad's hearing was all but lost, Marcia quietly instructed Dad as to how to move and what was next. As I watched Dad's vitals, the monitors seemed steady and showed no sign of distress or discomfort.
Created in 1999, more than 2,400 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 14 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honoring nurses.
In recognition of this honor, Gambrall received a vase of daisies, an award pin, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the Healers Touch by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
Her unit, Florida Hospital New Smyrna's ICU, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
