PALM COAST, Fla., January 17, 2017 On Jan. 11, Florida Hospital Flagler named board-certified gynecologist Dr. Steven Brown as the physician of the quarter for the fourth quarter of 2016.
Dr. Brown extends the healing ministry of Christ to all patients, regardless of their level of education, ability to pay, or other discriminating factors, one of his colleagues said in his nomination.
Another nomination pointed to Brown's involvement in Florida Hospital Flagler's robotics program with the da Vinci Surgical System for minimally invasive surgeries.
Dr. Brown has been instrumental in ensuring that the Florida Hospital Flagler's robotics program offers the highest quality care to patients, the nomination said.
The da Vinci Surgical System is utilized by multiple surgical specialties as an alternative to complex, open or laparoscopic surgery, creating small incisions will little-to-no scarring. During the procedure, the surgeon sits comfortably at a console, viewing a 3D, high-definition image of the patients anatomy. The surgeon uses controls to robotically move the instrument arms and camera. In real-time, the system translates the surgeon's hand, wrist and finger movements into more precise movements of the miniaturized instruments inside the patient. Potential benefits may include virtually scarless surgery, minimal pain and blood loss, fast recovery, a short hospital stay and high patient satisfaction.
Dr. Brown has served on leadership positions and committees, including chief of staff, said Dr. Ron Thomas, Florida Hospital Flagler chief medical officer. He consistently works with hospital administration and our board to ensure that we offer the highest level of care to our patients.
