Ruben Colon Highlights His Heritage and Health Care Journey

AdventHealth is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by featuring inspiring stories of team members in light of this year’s theme, “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.” They share about their personal journeys and significant contributions to their communities.
In his role as vice president of supply chain strategic sourcing for AdventHealth, Ruben Colon says he tells his team, “We may not be at the bedside, but we still are a part of taking care of patients. If we don’t do our job, those nurses and clinicians at the bedside won’t have the products they need to care for the patients. My 'why' is because we’re all supposed to be here to help each other.”
Colon calls growing up in a very large Puerto Rican population in New Jersey – where his father moved at the age of 13 – “just an amazing experience and really a part of my Hispanic culture and upbringing.”
AdventHealth, Colon says, has always worked closely with diverse suppliers in the community. He says that, from his perspective, “just growing up, you experience some of the obstacles, some of the disadvantages that, at times, a minority supplier would experience. So having that knowledge base, that foundation allows you to then understand where they’re coming from, and maybe it’s easier for us to open some doors for them.”
