Two Adventist Health System hospitals recently received the Supply Chain Excellence Award from Premier Inc., a leading health care improvement company, for superior supply chain practices. The awards were announced at Premier's 2018 Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition.
The hospitals, Florida Hospital Apopka and Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center, are among just 14 of nearly 4,000 hospitals and health systems to receive the Supply Chain Excellence Award this year, which recognizes superior supply expense performance through high-value purchasing practices.
'Supply chain excellence is integral to care delivery, and also reflects good stewardship of the precious resources we depend on to extend Christ's healing ministry,' said Terry Shaw, president/CEO for Adventist Health System. 'These hospitals deserve to be commended for their efforts, as they exemplify our systemwide focus on delivering exceptional care and value for patients.'
To be eligible, each organization had to submit four quarters of calendar 2017 data to Supply Focus, which includes the industry's largest comparative database of operational and supply chain cost information for acute care hospitals. Winners were identified using four industry standard case-mix-index-adjusted supply expense ratios and a peer grouping methodology to ensure that organizations of diverse sizes and complexity were considered equally.
'Florida Hospital Apopka and Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center are being recognized not only for their advanced purchasing abilities but also for their continuous work in collaborating to share best practices and support for the alliance,' said David A. Hargraves, senior vice president of supply chain for Premier. 'We celebrate their purchasing practices as they work to provide high-quality care at the best cost.'
