Dr. J. Ryland Scott, bariatric surgeon, speaks with Sarah Hunt, program coordinator for metabolic and bariatric surgery at AdventHealth Redmond.
ROME, Ga. — AdventHealth Redmond has been recognized as a Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction® Center for Bariatric Surgery, a designation that signifies a demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality, safe and effective weight-loss surgery.
Blue Distinction Centers for Bariatric Surgery are recognized by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association for meeting nationally established, objective quality measures. These measures evaluate patient outcomes, safety standards and program structure, with an emphasis on reducing complications and improving long-term health outcomes for people undergoing bariatric surgery.
“This designation reflects our team’s unwavering commitment to excellence and whole-person care,” said Sarah Hunt, program coordinator of metabolic and bariatric surgery at AdventHealth Redmond. “For patients considering bariatric surgery, this recognition provides added confidence that they are receiving quality, safe and compassionate support before, during and after their surgery.”
To earn the Blue Distinction designation, AdventHealth Redmond’s bariatric surgery program met comprehensive quality criteria, including national accreditation and participation in the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), demonstrated performance on risk-adjusted patient outcomes, use of evidence-based practices and continuous quality improvement processes, and multidisciplinary care teams focused on long-term patient success and safety.
Patient outcomes are evaluated using nationally reported data and evidence-based measures to ensure bariatric surgery programs meet or exceed expectations for quality and safety. Only facilities that satisfy these measures are selected for Blue Distinction recognition.
Bariatric surgery can be a life-changing treatment option for people living with obesity and related chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea. At AdventHealth Redmond, patients have access to individualized care plans, advanced surgical techniques and ongoing support designed to care for the body, mind and spirit.
Blue Distinction Centers are featured in many Blue Cross Blue Shield health plan provider directories, helping members identify facilities recognized for quality specialty care. Designation decisions are made independently for each facility and are reviewed on a regular basis.
