AdventHealth has appointed Jayaram Brindala, MD, to the position of vice president and chief medical officer for the Population Health Services Organization (PHSO). Dr. Brindala is board-certified in preventive medicine with medical education and training from the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Kentucky. He previously served as senior medical director for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Brindala will report to Jayne Bassler, president of AdventHealth’s PHSO.
“Dr. Brindala brings experience in population health in both the provider and payer settings, as well as a strong track record for translating research findings into policy and practice for evidence-based medicine,” said Bassler. “We look forward to his expertise and experience in creating and implementing innovative population-based strategies, programs and policies, which will accelerate AdventHealth’s ability to provide a proactive, longitudinal approach to caring for those we serve.”
Dr. Brindala began his career in health policy as a senior advisor for the Obama administration and then as a senior advisor for the Columbia University thinks tank, CASAColumbia. He collaborated with the leadership of public and private stakeholders to shape national health care policies informed by scientific and medical research. He then transitioned to physician executive roles within integrated health care systems encompassing both payers and providers. Dr. Brindala has served as medical director at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and as senior medical director at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
“This is an exciting time in health care and particularly for AdventHealth. I am thrilled to join the PHSO and I look forward to collaborating with the teams to impact the health of our communities and improve the quality and cost across our services,” said Dr. Brindala.
Dr. Brindala earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University, his Master of Business Administration from Smartly Institute, his Master of Public Health from the University of Kentucky, and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. He is an adventurer who has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, hiked the Amazon rainforest, explored the Great Barrier Reef, and traveled to more than 45 countries. He and his wife, Puja, have two young children who say they are most excited about the opportunity to visit Disney World more often.
