New Critical Care, Neurosciences Nursing Director

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., August 30, 2017 Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center has selected Melissa Gaston to serve as director of nursing for neurosciences and critical care.

In this new role, Gaston is responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the clinical practice activities for the Daytona Beach hospitals critical care and medical/surgical units with a specific focus on the intensive care unit, surgical progressive care unit, surgical nursing unit and the new neurosurgical progressive care unit, which is slated to open in late 2017.

Gaston began her career with Florida Hospital in 1995 as an emergency department technician. In 2001, she became a registered nurse.

Most recently, she served as director of clinical effectiveness, education and infection prevention at Florida Hospital DeLand and oversaw key hospital initiatives, including quality, clinical education and infection prevention.

A Pierson resident, Gaston graduated from Daytona Beach Community College with an associates degree in nursing. In 2008, she earned a bachelors degree in nursing from Jacksonville University.

She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and the Florida Association for Healthcare Quality.
