DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Access to specialized care is expanding in Volusia County as Dr. Mark Heimberger, a colorectal surgeon with advanced training in robotic and minimally invasive techniques, joins AdventHealth Medical Group and is caring for patients at AdventHealth Daytona Beach.
Colorectal conditions are both common and life-altering, and early, expert care can prevent serious illnesses, including colorectal cancer, one of the most diagnosed cancers nationwide.
With the area’s population growing faster than the national average, local access to specialty care has become increasingly important for families who want to stay close to home during treatment.
“I believe every patient deserves compassionate, high-quality care,” Heimberger said. “Colorectal surgery isn’t just about removing disease — it’s about restoring comfort, confidence and quality of life. My goal is to provide the care patients deserve, right here in the community I’m proud to call home.”
Heimberger specializes in robotic and minimally invasive procedures that can help reduce pain, shorten recovery time and support a smoother return to daily life. He treats a broad range of conditions, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, rectal prolapse and common issues such as hemorrhoids that, while often overlooked, can significantly affect quality of life.
AdventHealth Medical Group — a network of nearly 450 physicians and advanced practice providers offering comprehensive primary and specialty care across Flagler, Lake, Sumter and Volusia counties — continues to grow to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding region. In the past year alone, more than 100 new physicians and practitioners have joined the group, strengthening access to high-quality care close to home.
Hospital leaders say Heimberger’s arrival is a key part of that ongoing investment, expanding local access to advanced care and supporting the community’s long-term health needs.
“Having physicians like Dr. Heimberger here in our community means patients don’t need to leave Volusia County for high-level care,” said Dr. David Sinclair, president and CEO of AdventHealth Daytona Beach. “His expertise strengthens the care available today while helping us meet the growing needs of our neighbors in the years ahead. Patients will see the benefit in real, meaningful ways — quicker recoveries, fewer complications and the comfort of being treated close to home.”
A Florida native, Heimberger earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, completed his general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic Florida, and pursued fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Stony Brook University in New York. His research on surgical techniques and outcomes has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals.
Heimberger is now welcoming new patients at two locations:
- 400 Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite A, Ormond Beach, FL 32174
- 1185 Dunlawton Ave., Suite 100-A, Port Orange, FL 32127
