MERRIAM, Kan. — AdventHealth Mid-America Region is pleased to announce three of its hospitals welcomed their first babies of 2026, including one born just after the stroke of midnight.
Cody and Ann Peratt of Kansas City, Mo., welcomed their baby girl on January 1, 2026, at 12:01 am, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Baby Girl Peratt weighed in at 6 pounds 7 ounces and measured at 20 inches. The timing of Baby Girl Peratt's delivery likely makes her the first baby born in 2026 in Kansas and among the first born in the greater Midwest region.
The Peratt's, along with their first-born daughter who is approaching 3 years old, share something in common with their newest addition: all four members of their family have a birthday in January.
AdventHealth South Overland Park welcomed its first baby at 12:40 am on January 1; Ojinay, a baby girl, weighed in at 8 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 21 inches.
Mateo, a boy, was born to Naveah and Michael, of Ottawa, Kan., at AdventHealth Ottawa on January 1 at 3:40 pm weighing 6lbs and 11oz and measuring at 19.5 inches. Mateo was welcomed into the world under the care of Bridget Abney, MD, OB/GYN, and the labor and delivery team at the Family Birth Place. Baby Mateo's birth is the first time in 3 years that AdventHealth Ottawa has welcomed the first baby of the New Year at the Family Birth Place. After temporarily closing in 2023, the AdventHealth Ottawa Family Birth Place reopened on September 22, 2025, with a fully staffed labor and delivery team, bringing about the much-anticipated return of labor and delivery services to Franklin County and surrounding counties.
